Alcohol Meter Hydrometer 0-100%

An Alcohol Meter Hydrometer (0-100% ABV) is a precision instrument designed specifically to measure the alcohol/ethanol by volume (ABV) in distilled spirits, by measuring the density of the mixture. It works only on pure, sugar-free alcohol-water mixtures, commonly used for ABV testing, dilution, and quality control of home-distilled spirits at 20°C. Alcohol Meter Hydrometer 0-100%

Key Uses and Functions
Measuring Distilled Alcohol Strength: Accurately determines the proof or alcohol percentage of spirits directly from the still.
Dilution Planning: Essential for measuring high-proof alcohol before adding water to dilute it to a standard, drinkable bottling strength (e.g., 40-50% ABV).
Monitoring Distillation Efficiency: Helps distillers determine when the alcohol in the wash has been fully extracted, as the device is used to check the output of a still.

Important Usage Guidelines
No Sugar/Additive Rule: Only use on pure distillate. The presence of sugar (e.g., in liqueurs, wine, or unfermented mash) increases the density, giving a false, lower ABV reading.
Temperature Sensitivity: Most are calibrated for use at (20^{circ }text{C}) ((68^{circ }text{F})). Liquids colder or hotter than this will yield inaccurate readings.
Reading Mechanism: The device is floated in a tall, narrow test jar, and the reading is taken at the bottom of the meniscus (the surface of the liquid).
Calibration: The instrument, often called a Gay-Lussac hyd
rometer, is calibrated to the density of pure ethanol, not water.
